What we can do with your donation of €1,000 or more

We need every single organisation and business involved if we want to cool down our planet and build a climate-resilient future. That’s why we welcome all forms of business donations – no matter the size! In this section, we will list the different ways you can support our mission and become a business partner. Let’s dig in together!

Thanks to our supporters and partners, we can scale up our land restoration projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. By donating an annual amount of €1,000 or more, your company becomes an official Justdiggit supporter. This means that you will contribute to our mission of regreening African landscapes and cooling down the planet. Your company receives a regreening certificate and our communication package.

If you’re curious about our regreening techniques or the impact we are making, make sure to take a look at last year’s impact summary.

What we can do with your donation of €5,000 or more

For our restoration projects we work closely with local communities and partners. Our projects cover over 300,000 hectares of dry and degraded land in different regions in Kenya and Tanzania. Even though every project is different and requires a unique approach, our work has one thing in common everywhere: the power of nature!

With an annual business donation of €5,000 or more, you become a Justdiggit partner. As a Silver Partner, your donation will go to the area or project where your help is most needed at the time. You will also receive a yearly impact report and our communication package. Here are some examples of projects we might use your donation for:

Bunds

Our most well-known regreening technique! Bunds are semi-circular holes that capture rainwater and prevent erosion. By digging bunds, the soil gets the chance to sprout resulting in a return of vegetation and plants in the area. Done on a large enough scale, this regreening of dry and degraded land has a massive impact on water availability, biodiversity, food security, local communities – and even our climate.

Treecovery

Also known as Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). This is another proven and accessible regreening technique we use. Treecovery is the selecting, pruning and protecting of stumps of cut-down (but alive!) trees, which are widespread on African farming lands. With the right care, these stumps get the chance to grow into real trees again – in a much quicker and more sustainable way than by planting new trees!

To scale up the uptake of Treecovery, we use different methods. One of those is organising movie road shows: educative festivals where we use film, music and dance to engage and inspire farmers to start using these beneficial techniques.

Another method is training Champion Farmers.  In every new project area we work in, we invite several well-respected and highly skilled local farmers to become part of the Training of Trainers program run by our partner LEAD Foundation. By completing this training they become Champion Farmers: ambassadors of regreening that help inspire and teach their fellow farmers in the community how to get started with regreening!

Grass seed banks

Are a landscape restoration method where we use small parts of communal land for the production of grasses and grass seeds. The grass seed banks are managed and maintained by Maasai women groups in Kenya. Once the grasses are fully grown, the grasses produce grass seeds which are sold by the women on local markets or to other regreening projects. In this way, grass seed banks are not just a green oasis in dry and bare land; they’re also an additional source of income for people!

What we can do with your donation of €25,000 or more

If you donate €25,000 or more, you become one of our Golden partners; a significant collaboration for the regreening of our planet! As a Gold partner, you can choose the type of land restoration project you want to support. We regreen and restore land on a large scale thanks to two types of nature-based solutions:

BUNDS Our most well-known regreening technique! Bunds are semi-circular holes that capture rainwater and prevent erosion. By digging bunds, the soil gets the chance to sprout resulting in a return of vegetation in the area. Done on a large enough scale, this regreening of dry and degraded land has a massive impact on water availability, biodiversity, local communities – and even our climate.

TREECOVERY Also known as Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). This is another proven and accessible regreening technique we use. Treecovery is the selecting, pruning and protecting of stumps of cut-down (but alive!) trees, which are found widespread on African farmlands. With the right care, these stumps get the chance to grow into real trees again in a much quicker and more sustainable way than by planting new trees. Compared to tree planting programs, the survival rate of trees regenerated through Treecovery is generally much higher. In our Treecovery program, it is estimated to be about 80%!

By digging in with us, you help revive ecosystems, improve livelihoods, and cool down the planet. You also receive other benefits, such as an estimation of the potential long-term impact of your donation, an extended communication package, and a yearly progress report about the following impact indicators:

NUMBER OF BUNDS OR TREES

To restore degraded land with our regreening projects, we use different landscape restoration techniques. This all depends on the physical (climate, soil conditions, slope) and social-economic (e.g. land use) conditions of the area. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to regreening! In both cases, we’re able to monitor and calculate exactly how many bunds we dug or trees we have brought back thanks to your support.

HECTARES OF LAND UNDER REGREENING

By digging bunds or bringing back trees we can regreen large areas of dry and degraded land. That’s because increased vegetation means more organic matter, more nutrients and more water in the soil. The root system of the vegetation helps water to enter the ground more easily and go deeper, which boosts tree and plant growth in the entire area!

AMOUNT OF WATER RETAINED

We capture large amounts of invaluable rainwater in our project areas. By digging the bunds we open up the dried-out top layer of the earth’s soil, slowing down and capturing the rainwater running downhill. Trees and other vegetation also help to improve the micro-climate by providing shade and by releasing moisture into the air. On a large enough scale, this helps to create clouds and increases the chance of rain, especially at the beginning and end of the rainy season! We estimate the amount of water retained based on rainfall and the number of bunds and trees.

CARBON SEQUESTRATION

While growing, vegetation takes up CO₂ from the atmosphere. This decreases the concentration of CO₂ and reduces the greenhouse effect. On a large scale, this helps combat global warming! For our Treecovery projects we can give CO₂ sequestration updates, but for bunds this is not possible.

**Disclaimer. By regreening degraded landscapes and bringing back vegetation, our programs capture huge amounts of CO₂. However, Justdiggit does not formally compensate for carbon emissions. To compensate for carbon emissions in a formal way, specific certification of the program and the sequestrated carbon is required. This process can take multiple years and is expensive and we prefer to invest these resources into scaling up our regreening efforts. Instead, we make a projection of the amount of carbon to be captured in the next 20 years, based on the projected carbon storage in the Treecovery trees. In our progress reports, we provide an estimation of how much carbon will actually be captured, based on the actual number of trees brought back, so far (progress vs target).

What we can do with your donation of €50,000 or more

With an annual donation of €50,000 or more, your company can regreen a dedicated area in Kenya or Tanzania. This means you will know exactly where your donation is used to regreen a specific plot of land. Large-scale regreening with nature-based solutions positively affects nature, livelihoods, biodiversity – and even our climate! We regreen and restore land on a large scale thanks to two types of nature-based solutions:

You also receive other benefits, such as an estimation of the potential long-term impact of your donation, a map showing the location of the specific project area, a personalised communication package, and a bi-yearly progress report about the following impact indicators:

NUMBER OF PEOPLE BENEFITTING

By becoming a large partner, we can calculate and communicate how many people and villages are benefitting from your donation for a Treecovery project. In this way, you’ll know exactly how much your company has contributed to a more liveable planet!

Different ways
to donate

Our partners come in all shapes and sizes; from large socially conscious multinationals to mom-and-pop stores, looking to make an impact. That’s why we offer multiple forms of donation, so we can engage as many companies for the cooling of our planet as possible! Here are different ways to donate to our projects:

Periodically a fixed amount

A straightforward way to make a large impact! Donate a fixed amount for a longer period of time, every 6 months or every year.

Percentage revenue or profit

Another common way to dig in with us and support the regreening of our planet is by donating a percentage of your total revenue or net revenue to our projects.

Continuous donations with a variable amount

It’s also possible to link your donation amount to the sale of a product or service. In that case, you choose to do a periodic donation with a variable amount.

Creative ways to partner up

The sky is the limit when it comes to partnering up with us. Well, not exactly, but we are definitely open to your out-of-the-box ideas – in fact, we encourage you to come up with a creative way to dig in with us!

Need some inspiration? Below you can find a few examples of companies who collaborated with us in a fun and creative way.
