37 new Champion Farmers join the regreening movement
Supporting farmers is at the heart of our mission. Last month, 37 new Champion Farmers from the Arusha and Manyara regions joined our Training of Trainers (ToT) programme. This means there are now 92 ‘champions’ in total, all equipped to train about 100 others—a fantastic step in scaling our regreening efforts across Tanzania!
The new participants replace those who could not continue and join an existing group of champions, who are learning advanced regreening techniques. These include rainwater harvesting methods like “Fanya juu, fanya chini”, and Treecovery. Farmers are also gaining entrepreneurship skills, such as soap and body jelly production, to diversify their income streams while contributing to the programme’s sustainability.
What is Training of Trainers (ToT)?
ToT is a comprehensive three-phase training approach designed to equip Champion Farmers with the tools to teach others. Training begins in a classroom setting, where farmers learn regreening techniques, project monitoring, and evaluation skills. They then apply these skills in the field, practicing techniques like rainwater harvesting and tree restoration.
The program also emphasises leadership and communication. Farmers learn to use tools like flyers, SMS services, and demonstration plots to effectively spread awareness in their communities. With these skills, Champion Farmers can regreen their land, teach others, and contribute to cooling down the planet.
Thanks to the dedication of these Champion Farmers and the Include program, we are not only restoring land but also supporting local leaders to grow a greener, sustainable future. Together, we’re making a tangible impact!
