An unforgettable day with a massive impact – This was the Climate Classic and Climate marathon
What a day! On June 20, The Climate Classic and Climate marathon (Klimaatmarathon in Dutch) has proven the power of collective action. These organisations decided to work together and unite cyclists and runners for one cause: restoring the climate. With breathtaking routes that followed the imaginary new coastline of the Netherlands if sea levels continue to rise, hundreds of participants came together to raise awareness for the climate crisis — and to take action.
Cycling and running along the rising sea
The Climate Classic is a visual and physical reminder of what’s at stake. As riders followed the potential future coastline, the urgency of the climate crisis was impossible to ignore. But instead of being overwhelmed, the participants showed what hope and action look like. During the Climate marathon runners passed by the iconic locations being the KNMI site in De Bilt and the city of Amersfoort (which we prefer not to think of as ‘Amersfoort by the Sea’).
In this edition, around 2.700 cyclists and runners covered hundreds of kilometers under the banner of climate action, raising an incredible total of €175.000 (and counting!) for landscape restoration. You can still donate until the 1st of July!
Every euro makes a difference
Thanks to the amazing amount raised, Justdiggit can continue scaling up its regreening projects. From water bunds to tree restoration, every euro helps to bring back green to dry, degraded lands, restoring biodiversity, and supporting local communities. The impact of this day will go far beyond the routes being cycled and run. To stay up to date on the impact of these events, you can follow us on social media and subscribe to our monthly newsletter!
A huge thank you to everyone involved
We want to sincerely thank all the participants, volunteers, sponsors, and the organising teams of the Climate Classic and Klimaatmarathon who made this unforgettable event possible. Your energy, dedication, and enthusiasm are exactly what the climate needs. Together, we are digging in and making real change happen.
Let’s keep the wheels turning and feet running
The Climate Classic and Climate marathon may be over, but the journey doesn’t stop here. The climate crisis demands ongoing action, and together, we can continue to turn barren lands green and secure a cooler climate.
