Big progress in Mid-Tana! ADSE constructs over 28,000 bunds
Exciting news from Mid-Tana! Our amazing partner, ADSE, is making huge strides in land restoration through the TWENDE project. Out of the 48,000 bunds planned for the area, more than 28,000 have already been constructed, bringing us one big step closer to restoring the land.
Sharing grass seeds
Mid-Tana’s unique land tenure system means that the water bunds are built on privately owned land, many of which are fenced off and secured with acacia prunes. And here is the exciting part: once the land is restored, the landowners will share grass seeds and pasture with the local community, helping everyone benefit from the greener landscape!
Bringing the soil back to life
Recent drone footage from ADSE’s trainings shows just how far we’ve come. The bunds are placed closely together to tackle the severe land degradation and surface runoff that have been major challenges in the region. These bunds are an efficient way to capture water and stop soil erosion, allowing the land to heal and regrow.
And the community is jumping on board too! Local farmers are starting to apply these techniques on their own land, scaling up the impact and showing that these restoration efforts are catching on.
We’re super proud to be partnering with ADSE on this journey. Together, we’re making the Earth smile, one bund at a time!
