Justdiggit mourns the death of cyclist and regreening ambassador Gino Mäder

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the tragic passing of Gino Mäder (26), who died after a horrific fall during stage five of the Tour de Suisse. We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the cycling community at large, by whom Gino Mäder was beloved for his talent and loving personality.

Gino wasn’t just an extraordinary athlete but also a deeply caring human being who was concerned with the state of the planet. He used his position as a pro-athlete to raise awareness and raise money for causes that were close to his heart. During the Vuelta a España in 2021, he chose Justdiggit as a good cause to donate to. On his Twitter account, he pledged to donate 10 euros towards Justdiggit for every rider he beat during a stage and on the final ranking. After every stage, he shared the interim scores with his followers, which resulted in a total of €4,529 for the regreening of Africa and the cooling down of our planet.

It’s difficult to express in words how grateful we are for this and how the news of this tragic accident affected us. All that we can do is take over the torch he passed to us by helping realise his vision for a greener, cooler and healthier planet.

In love & light,

The Justdiggit Team
