New opportunities for women at Meshanani and Noonkotiak grass seed banks

Congratulations to the women at the Meshanani and Noonkotiak grass seed banks! Recently, they’ve begun generating new income streams by harvesting and baling hay from their seed banks—with impressive results.

Expanding our impact together

Through hard work and dedication, the women’s groups managing the grass seed banks in Meshanani and Noonkotiak, Kenya, have made a remarkable leap by adding hay production to their activities.

Our technical team trained the African Environmental Team (AET) and SORALO on sustainable grass harvesting and baling techniques, and we’re thrilled to see these skills already being implemented! The women participated in this training with enthusiasm, and the results speak for themselves. Afterward, we joined them in celebrating the payments they received for the grass seeds purchased from their seedbanks—another well-deserved reward for their incredible efforts.

This exciting milestone demonstrates how nature-based solutions can bring multiple benefits—ecological, social, and economic. Grass seed banks are essential for land restoration, and the added opportunity to harvest hay and generate income is a valuable bonus that will further support the women and their communities.

We’re proud to collaborate with such dedicated individuals and organizations, making a real difference for our planet and its people!
