Project update ||| 2024
Let’s start with an update on the Regreening Programme as a whole…
With the help of your fantastic support, the Regreening Singida Programme has made remarkable progress throughout the reporting period!
Let’s get to the most important results first. The programme is currently divided into four clusters: Cluster A, Cluster B, Cluster C and Cluster D. We’re thrilled to report that, by July 2024, a total of 6,775,575 trees have been restored, and over 46,119 metres of Fanya Juu trenches have been dug. And that’s not all: 67,323 households across 166 villages have been trained so far!
This progress is driven by a range of activities, including movie roadshows, ward events, and continuous coaching and mentorship provided by District Coordinators. Supportive supervision through field visits is actively taking place across Clusters A, B, and C, offering valuable insights into the ongoing progress in line with the programme’s goals.
Overall, the Regreening Singida Programme is making significant headway in advancing tree restoration and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in Central Tanzania.
A significant progress in Treecovery and rainwater harvestingÂ
Together with LEAD Foundation, we are working in 26 villages, where we have trained and visited 5,390 households and restored 76,904 Treecovery trees. We have trained 105 households in Fanya Juu Fanya Chini (FJFC)Â and dug 60 metres of FJFC terraces. Combined with Treecovery efforts, we have reached 13% of the programme’s targets by July 2024.
Training of trainersÂ
Cluster C’s champion farmers, totaling 104, received an intermediate training that built upon the basic concepts and introduced additional skills like conservation agriculture, efficient cooking stoves, and entrepreneurship. All the participating champion farmers expressed their satisfaction with the training and pledged to implement the learnings effectively.
We’ve painted murals in 26 villages
Murals are painted on walls in all the villages of the interventions and on selected walls that are seen by many people. The main role of murals is to raise awareness on the activities that will take place in and around the villages. We noticed that communities were inspired by the murals: many people contacted LEAD Foundation for more information about Treecovery through the info shared on the murals. We are confident that these murals will continue to serve as a powerful source of inspiration for regreening efforts in the area you’re supporting.Â
We keep spreading the word..
We distributed printed t-shirts to all champion farmers in this cluster to boost motivation, brand loyalty, and awareness in the community. Additionally, brochures and posters tailored for the local community were provided to all champion farmers in Cluster C, offering a compact and effective way to share regreening knowledge and promote the brand.
