Regreening Longido (CMA CGM) – Q4 2025 News Update

December 2025- January 2026 program progress

Between December 2025 and January 2026, several key activities were carried out in advancing PMNR and pasture regeneration on GSBs as follows;

  • Community training on PMNR; The Program District Coordinator (PDC) and champion farmers have provided knowledge and technical support to the community on natural regeneration of Kisiki hai trees, through PMNR techniques, including selection, pruning, marking, and protection of regenerated trees. These efforts have resulted in the cumulative regeneration of 2,916 trees, contributing to enhanced biodiversity and ecosystem restoration.
  • Coaching and mentoring Champion farmers; The PDC has continued to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to the 6 regreening Champion farmers to build their capacity on PMNR techniques as well as their ability transfer shared knowledge to the community. This has resulted to training of 257 households and 133 adopting PMNR techniques. On GSBs the groups of women have continued to be mentored on GSB management activities and proper monitoring of the sites to maintain function ability of the GSB.
  • GSBs management activities; A total of 51 participants from two women’s groups carried out critical GSB management activities to ensure the sustainable functionality of the sites. Activities included weeding and reseeding. Weeding involved removal of competing weeds to allow desirable forage grasses to establish stronger root systems and achieve optimal growth. Reseeding was implemented across the 2 villages, specifically addressing areas on the bund sites that showed poor or absent initial grass germination. Masaai love grass and Rhodes grass seeds were used for reseeding.
