Singida Cluster D1 Update – April 2025

Monitoring and Progress

During this reporting period, District Coordinator conducted field visits to 20 villages in Cluster D1. These visits involved verification of tree counts and general program implementation.

Challenges encountered by Champion Farmers were addressed during these visits, and farmers’ booklets were reviewed to validate reported progress. These efforts have contributed to the successful restoration of 165,640 Kisiki Hai (FMNR) trees across 20 villages. To date, 1,266 households have been impacted by the program in Cluster D1, with 324 households actively practicing regreening techniques.

Rural Communication Updates

During this reporting period, a movie roadshow was held at Ilongi village, bringing together more than 450 people for edutainment to learn about restoration methods, share experiences, and participate in Q&A sessions with coordinators and champion farmers.

Digital and Print Outreach

The Kijani App, launched in the previous year, has now surpassed 10,000 downloads, further expanding the reach of restoration knowledge. To support community awareness, the following communication materials were distributed:

  • 12,000 brochures (600 per village),
  • 40 posters (2 per village).

These materials have been instrumental in promoting regreening techniques across the cluster, including newly painted murals (picture below)

Stakeholder Engagement

Stakeholder meetings were held in Ikungi, Mkalama, and Singida Districts, bringing together leaders from various administrative levels. In January, we held stakeholder workshops in the villages to review the progress of our programs and explore how we can collaborate more effectively to achieve our shared goals. The workshops provided a valuable platform for learning, sharing experiences, and strengthening partnerships. The workshops focused on:

  • Reviewing program progress,
  • Identifying local challenges and opportunities, and
  • Strategizing for the upcoming sustainability phase.

Community Events

Three community meetings were held in Kikhonda and Mbigibigi villages, creating platforms for discussion, feedback, and motivation also as a creative tool for increasing community awareness of Kisiki Hai and regreening practices.

Testimony: Champion Farmer Impact

“I am part of the Regreening Singida Program, using Kisiki Hai and Fanyas to restore dry landscapes. Since my first ToT training in December 2023, I have restored 606 trees and benefited from firewood and livestock fodder. I have also implemented Fanya Juu/Chini to prevent erosion and retain manure. My farm, once affected by rain, now holds nutrients better. I have dug 936 meters of Fanyas. Thanks to this program, I will continue spreading knowledge on restoration techniques.” – Daniel Msunza, Champion Farmer, Ishenga Village, Mkalama District, Singida : Watch Daniel’s Testimony
