Singida gains 232 new Champion Farmers

Singida gains 232 new Champion Farmers

232 farmers have participated in the Training of Trainers program run by our partner LEAD Foundation. Now they are ā€œChampion Farmersā€: ambassadors of regreening. They received mobile phones which will make it easier for them to spread the regreening message.

In their local communities, they will help inspire and teach their fellow farmers how to get started with regreening. They will inspire and activate thousands of fellow farmers and together bring back 2 million trees. So far they have learnt of the ancient farming techniques of Kisiki Hai and Fanya Juu & Fanya Chini. And this is only the beginning! There will be much more learning about and actively doing regreening in the coming years.

What is Training of Trainers?
Before heading into the project fields, the local farmers studied the background of these techniques in a classroom setting. They applied their new knowledge to the techniques in the field. They were ready with their new knowledge to practise the techniques in the field. Furthermore, when visiting other areas, they learnt how to monitor and evaluate the local farms. They are also trained on leadership skills and how they can make use of existing communication tools like posters, flyers and upcoming roadshows, SMS service and demonstration plots. With this training they are able to regreen and cool down the Singida area!Ā
